Like Nevermind, Siamese Dream represents the great lost link between alternative, pop, and metalthe music drifts from a dreamy, acoustic-guitar folkiness to a full-bore electric bludgeoning, and the shift is so effortless and artful you barely notice it. Along with Nevermind, this album solidified alternative rock as a true art form and brought the rebellious nature back to Rock and Roll. Siamese Dream Q&A. Record sounds so good. Very happy to finally own one.

Does anyone have this record? How does it sound? Thanks!

This pressing is, without question, the best I've ever heard Siamese Dream sound. It's not even close. Billy's vocals are crisp and clear, the fuzz is electrifying, and the bass is positively thunderous. What a treasure.
Sat Sat
One of the best sound records in my collection, very nice dyanamic range
Vushura Vushura
The mastering on this release is top-notch, sounds great on my system.
JoldGold JoldGold
After purchasing both Gish and Mellon Collie I was happy with the remaster. Sadly I was let down with my copy of this. Side C and D played well.. I noticed a few crackles on Side A and didn't think much of it then looked up and noticed the disc was badly warped... luckily got a refund... when a record isn't cheap you expect more... problem with gatefolds these days. More likely to be warped..
BOND BOND
One of the best sounding 90's pressings I own. I hear the remaster is good too but I don't have it to compare to.
Araath Araath
Sounds almost perfect. The master itself is gorgeous and easily one of the best remasters I've heard in a while. The master itself is extremely clear and bassy, each of the individual instruments are perfectly clear sounding and has a larger amount of depth compared to the original CD that I have. The only problem I've had is that side A has a continuous crackle through side A. I might return this in exchange for another copy as it seems it requires a bit of luck to get a perfect copy.
Bele Bele
Why did they have to make the covers of the reissues (Gish too) purple? It's sickening :( I want the original artwork back.
Ohatollia Ohatollia
This is a record I really enjoy listening to. Definitely their best work. And I say that as an authority on the matter. After all, I have listened to this and a bit of The Infinite Sadness and literally nothing else they've ever made. So I know what I'm talking about.
Uthergo Uthergo
The first copy I bought had some sort of material embedded in the vinyl. So I know kinda what people are talking about with poor pressings. I hated returning it to my local brick & mortar shop because I know its a bit of a hit for them (especially with what the price is up to for this issue these days - 39.99). But they're super cool, one of the best little record stores on the planet!!! Anyway, they exchanged for another copy. It's super clean. And this reissue sounds great to me! I wanted to hold out for a first pressing, not for the marble vinyl (really not a big fan of colored vinyl) but as sill as it might sound to some, but I just don't like what they did with the colors on the *cover* of this reissue. It's packaged a bit too tight for all that comes inside and it's slightly overpriced. But if it's all (or at least mostly) about the sound and not aesthetics, this is a great buy. If you're a fan of SP, and especially this album, get it before the price goes up again.
Leniga Leniga
My copy is a tad noisy on sides A/B, sides C/D are ok. Fair amount of pops and background hiss, but overall it's acceptable.. and I'm pretty picky. The mastering is superb, much more clarity and dynamics than the CD. The print quality is excellent IMO but you're right, there's not enough play in the jacket to fit the discs. I store them outside the jacket in a polyprop cover. Judging from the comments it's a bit of pot luck scoring a quieter copy.
Deodorant for your language Deodorant for your language
But it's still NOT dead quiet vinyl. The mastering is pretty good (for an analog source transferred to 24/96 and then back to an analog format in this digital age) but this pressing does leave something to be desired.
Djang Djang
I bought this new in 2007 or so. Sounds damn good.
Boyn Boyn
If you decide to give the album a shot, my personal favorites: Soma and Mayonaise. They're all great of course (but particularly those).
Zyniam Zyniam
I paid 48.99 for this and the sound quality is great, nice and clean and open sounding. Happy with purchase.
Bludworm Bludworm
Audio quality is on point. I bought the original CD on it's release day in 1993 and I always thought it sounded boxed in and compressed. The songs have not been set free on this Vinyl release. I found this in a record store for $32.99, I wouldn't pay any more than that for it despite how great it is.
Quashant Quashant
great album. nearly perfect and a bit better than their next album
Nothing personal Nothing personal
Mine closely resembles the one in the 3 o'clock position; a peach, with other colors mixed in, stamped MASTERDISK, and the gatefold is a glossy texture. There's some surface noise throughout, but it's mostly a pretty good pressing. This copy was purchased in 2003.
Bine Bine
I have the same. I think it should be called a Peach or "Light Orange" vinyl, a new variant. This guy's photo is nice. Also, I have a second one that is no doubt, an orange marble. I would call it "regular orange" and it's in his pic at the bottom right.
Zamo Zamo
It may be unofficial, but the entire band happily signed this for me in 2000 at the Tower Records, Clark Street, in Chicago on the Release day of Machina: The Machines of God
Kerahuginn Kerahuginn
There are 2 similar inner lyric sleeves in mine... quality control wake up!
Nalmergas Nalmergas
I think I actually bought this for the first time in late '93 or early '94. I was skeptical about buying the full album after only hearing "Cherub Rock" (which I thought was very cool) and "Today" which was nice, but not as dark and heavy as the industrial/alt rock/grunge etc I was used to and looking for at the time. BUT, I happened to spot a used copy in the front bin at my local record store and (after probably far too much thought) decided it was worth the $7.00 risk (probably because I found little else I wanted to buy that day). I was not prepared for how good this wound up being to my ears. Corgan and Co. (mostly Corgan lol) have made some really great stuff over the years. Before and after SD, but this, this is their Magnum Opus. No other collection of tracks/albums beats (or comes close imho) to this. It's easy to see how this (along with MTV airplay; remember those days? lol) catapulted them into massive mainstream success. So many epic, epic tracks! I listened to this endlessly, along with NIN's TDS.
Cherry The Countess Cherry The Countess
MTV was great in the early 90s and it worked wellDirectors like kevin kerslake or STEPHANE SEDNAOUI both directed videos for the singles of that album were household names and guarantees for hits

I am just trying to find the original lp album cover, i much prefer it to the cover on re-release (the purple tinted cover). Anyone know where/how i could find just the cover??
Zyangup Zyangup
I am glad I bought this album a couple years ago brand new for only 35 bucks retail. Now this album is pushing $60.00!! WT%! C'mon people! Greed is starting to kill this hobby I still love somehow. Awesome re-master though. One of the best "newer" albums I own! Thanks Billy!
Aloo Aloo
Retail price is one thing, but on the collector market it's like anything else. Supply and demand. There's only one first pressing of everything, and stuff from 1990-2010 can be extremely rare.
Kamuro Kamuro
Same, bought for $28 brand new retail! Then it went out of stock at most places for a little while...and then when it eventually came back the retail price jumped to nearly $50. Crazy.
Otrytrerl Otrytrerl
Just some information regarding the release date: I bought a sealed copy from Italy and it has a sticker on the back cover saying: "fono import 1999".
Dagdarad Dagdarad
What’s up with the price on this??? Brand new list price from label is $48.99. I know this was in the 30s not too long ago.
Skyway Skyway
yeah it's about that same price as well at my local indie store. I got this reissue back when it first came out as a gift and I assume it was the same then. Of course that was about seven years ago and the prices on vinyl are higher these days. Also there could be the issue of the number of reprints...
SoSok SoSok
Probably I had bad luck on this album. Extremely compressed, terrible dynamics, everything SUCKS! Reading the other reviews, the only conclusion is it's a defective press!
Hunaya Hunaya
100% same issue here. I was thinking my setup must be completely f'd, I was expecting this to be super clean sounding. Static all the way through.
Ral Ral
I ear some of the same but it is still nice my friend :)
Quinthy Quinthy
While no serious issues with pops and clicks and such, comparing Mayonaise for example, it just sounds so much clearer and layered on the remastered CD compared to the vinyl.
Enone Enone
I ended up cleaning this record a few times. Cleaned my needle. Hit the album with the zerostat. I can confirm that there seems to be a constant underline of static noise throughout. it was so bad that I was second guessing my set up. Threw one of my cramps albums on. Perfectly clean. No floor noise.
Nagor Nagor
Same here...surface noise, high-ends suck. Not happy with it...and the price was ridicously high and now i get this :/
Valawye Valawye
Hi friend, I have the same opinion about my copy
Tiv Tiv
so there is no way to tell whether you have a '93 copy or an '04 copy?
Burirus Burirus
The 2004 black copies are the most common. Compared to an original colored pressing on the back there is more white space between the far left branch and the top of the cover. Original is like a few mm and the 04 copies it's like a cm. I'll take a picture someday.
Mr Freeman Mr Freeman
Im Wondering about this right now. I have a black vinyl Carol copy and I want to know which of the years it was pressed.
Wal Wal
Mine is not pink , it's rather salmon color . 5th record on second picture. Amazing sound quality. Crazy dynamic range ( nice workout for my headphones ) , solid base , punchy drums and guitar riffs , natural vocals ,very gentle and mellow acoustic guitar , correct undistorted highs. . I don't hear no digitalization . The vinyl sound as analog as they can get. Very enjoyable listen. Haven't heard the remaster with 'remastered' artwork.
Jugore Jugore
I think that one is referred to as the "peach edition"... have that one too.
Stanober Stanober
I bought mine at an FMV store in Seattle in 2007 brand spanking new for $20 if I remember. Guess I lucked out cause i thought it was just a normal repress - nothing special other than it did sound REALLY good.
luisRED luisRED
this was the best sounding version i owned. don't get rid of it.
Konetav Konetav
Lol same here. I got mine in 2008. I always thought it sounded really nice.
Androlhala Androlhala
Incredible sounding pressing. The dynamics are unreal, the guitars and drums just tear right through. Jimmy's kit sounds incredible. One of the very best sounding pressings I own, which includes a fair number of MoFi.
Grillador Grillador
This is a fantastic reissue.... artwork, presssing, everthing. They really put some heart doing this.
greed style greed style
Let music be bought at a normal price, stop buying at prices that are just dumb! 100 Euro for a Vg copy in Europe, come on.. until 3 years ago you could pick a Vg+/Nm for 20-30 Euro. I don't mean underestimating but it's getting ridiculous
Mr_Jeйson Mr_Jeйson
I paid £100 for a VG+. I wish I'd have picked it up a few years ago. I bet you do too ;)
Grari Grari
Sounds like you missed the boat. Why did you wait to buy?
Hǻrley Quinn Hǻrley Quinn
i have just payed 150 euros for a unopened first pressing
blodrayne blodrayne
a great record with a amazing sound made in Colombia, almost impossible to find.
Molotok Molotok
Beautiful pressing. Punchy, loud, but very bass heavy. I needed to turn the bass down on my receiver,
Modifyn Modifyn
I actually think this pressing is much newer than 1993, unless it was in production for well over a decade. I purchased my copy brand new at a Best Buy in Columbus Ohio during a brief time in which they carried LP's. This had to have been sometime around 2011. This is just a guess, but I would say this pressing is no more than 4-8 years old.The first thing I did notice is that this pressing is really clear, and sounds great.I find it weird that it is listed without an exact release date since it was purchased from a large retail store. My gut feeling is that Carol just decided to print up some black vinyl version when records started getting popular again. So it's likely the exact same record as those colored ones, but newly produced black vinyl.
Maridor Maridor
I just bought one of these black vinyl copies yesterday. Disk A had never been put onto a TT because it wouldn't fit on the spindle. We had to scrape out the hole with scissors. So this leads me to believe your claim. But other than that it does sound very clear and im happy with it. I just thought when I bought it I was buying an original pressing.
Celace Celace
To add to AARONSPINS previous comment below. it is an official 4th pressing between 1993 and 1995, There is a write up online where it was tested with fancy equipment along with a 1st pressing and the quality was exactly the same. If you find a copy, grab it.
Nanecele Nanecele
Details to the black pressings are in the listing. The black copies were pressed in 4 different years from 1993 on and are from the same plates as the original pressings, but with no way to differentiate what year they were pressed.

Here we have one of the best albums in rock history. We have one of the 10 best rock albums in 90's decade. Nothing can "sit" next to this album, no comparison. It's totally different music thing. It's a Miracle. It's NOT grunge, not just one "alternative rock" album. I cannot give a name to it...I really cannot. I m still searching to categorize it but it's unable. It's FULL OF power, sweet sweat, angry & wrath, sometimes progressive, narcotic, childish, groovy, erotic....ALBUM FULL OF EMOTIONS!
Forcestalker Forcestalker
I actually prefer the 1993 USA Caroline (orange-ish pink) pressing I have over this reissue. I thought that this reissue squashed some of the dynamics out of the original and pushed up the volume a bit.
Daizil Daizil
I always appreciate when someone takes the time to compare original pressings with reissues. Don't know why anyone would troll someone who takes the time to do so. Thanks for the info!
Άνουβις Άνουβις
Is this more of a brag that you own an original pressing or that the re-issue substandard?
Zahisan Zahisan
Just bought the album and man oh man what a great reissue! It sounds way much better than the original CD. I got the original Gish album on vinyl. But after hearing Siamese Dream I'm going the reissue version.
Bedy Bedy
Totally agree man! I got this one and the reissue of Gish; both classics in my opinion.
Meztisho Meztisho
This RI much like Gish is stellar. Heavy record and nice artwork. Worth the price of admission.

had to buy a second copy because the first one had lp-1 on both disks

Got my copy these days "Virgin ‎– 50999 67928 9 10"I have a prob with the very last track disc2 side2 "Luna" Sounds like you have dirt on your needle, noisy, but there is no dirt. played with different needles. still the same. does anyone have that prob?cheers. Patrick

Hi, I bought my copy 2 days ago from Mojo records in Sydney Australia. My copy has the same number as yours Virgin 5099967928910. Yes, the last track on side 2 of record 2 ''Luna'' has blurry sound. Also the last track on side 1 of record 2 ''Spaceboy'' sounds a bit indistinct. Most of the record sounds ok, but it is disappointing to buy a 180gm record with these kinds of defects. 180gm is no guarantee of superior sound quality. I just thought I'd let you know that you are not the only person who bought a sub-standard copy. Regards, Ken.
Qwne Qwne
Finely picked this up sounds great far better than the first press in every way.
Melipra Melipra
I bought a copy of this album from someone who claims they purchased this version new in 1993 along with an orange copy. According to my source it would be the fourth pressing in 1993 following the colored versions. From SPFC: "1st press: Unknown pressing quantity on purple/maroon vinyl 2nd press: Unknown pressing quantity on peach/pink/light-red vinyl 3rd press: Unknown pressing quantity on orange vinyl. 4th press: Unknown pressing quantity on black vinyl."

Before I purchase I was just wondering if it will get to my address by Christmas? It won't show me the expected arrival date.

Mine also mis print with same label on both records, but all songs correct.

My copy doesn't have the same artwork on the back sleeve as the one pictured. It's a picture of the girl from a low angle and with half of her head out of frame. Also, it has no barcode.
Thomand Thomand
The barcode and the back artwork/song list should have come on a separate sheet of paper.
Briciraz Briciraz
Track listings, barcode and other info are printed on a additional single sided sheet. I have now uploaded the actual image of the rear sleeve.
Gaiauaco Gaiauaco
Repress is great, got a fresh copy of it today. Bass seems heavy but doesn't interfere with levels or nuances in the sound. I suppose this is just how the recording sounds. Pressed on-center (rare these days unfortunately), dead wax has lots of hand etching with good info. All around fantastic album and packaging, from the new foil cover to the paper/poly inner sleeves to the picture sleeves.
Oghmaghma Oghmaghma
Such a wonderful press for such an amazing record.

The Matrix / Runout of my copy is: 88267-2 MO S3529D Y 1-1-35 EMI JAX.None of the matrix shown here.
Feri Feri
The outer edge of my disc1 is flat and an eighth inch thick on one side. Rotate about 180 degrees and that edge is nice and sharp. No issues with the sound quality but the pressing quality is a little disappointing.
Whatever Whatever
Also find this a great press for the most part, but some of the bass overwhelms my system like no other record I have... the kick drum on a couple tracks has a tendency to push into distortion. None of my other vinyl does this :/. Am I the only one that gets this? A pressing issue? Or maybe they have mastered to the limits of what a record can handle?
Iraraeal Iraraeal
Mine is ridiculously bass heavy as well. Wasn't able to crank it up though. Maybe at some point it evens out.
Mmsa Mmsa
Yes the one in my hand has also on both records the same label.
Direbringer Direbringer
Perfect compositions / perfect sound engineering & mixing......& a perfect drummer! (...mmmmmm...did they play "grunge"???....:-))
Zieryn Zieryn
This repress sounds amazing. I was a college freshman when this hit, so I've heard it literally hundreds of times. Listening to the detail of this reissue is impressive.
Humin Humin
Siamese Dream is a strange example of external pressure capable to develop the creativity of an artist. Grunge rock explosion and debut album potential convinced Virgin to claim a hit record, from the second Smashing Pumpkins album. The band risked to destroy itself but the result was a wonderful rock album, perfect to launch Pumpkins in the lap of alternative rock gods. Billy Corgan emphasized melodic research and combined it with a ton of fuzz and distortion, balancing tenderness with heaviness, clearly inspired by the growing shoegaze English movement. Butch Vig job was as important as Corgan one, in transforming the sound of the band towards a more psychedelic pop dimension. Siamese Dream is, at the same time, dense and stratified, powerful and delicate, concrete and dreamlike, representing grunge rock gentle side.

Along with the orange, pink & purple copies, there was also a run of black copies of CAROL 1740 1, 0170 4 61740 1 5 from 1993, Read here: http://www.spfc.org/songs-releases/discog.html?discog_id=12

Repress, what is this some kind of fruit. This is genius, simple as that. Angst laden, hate laden and yet full of love and tenderness. The only problem is finding somewhere and the electronics to play it as loud as possible,
Arthunter Arthunter
This repress is great. Sound is fantastic, and the remastering is true to the original. The packaging is awesome. Thick heavy-duty jacket and comes with printed sleeves as well as static free. I don't know if I'm a huge fan of the alternate artwork, but whatever. Couldn't ask for more.
you secret you secret
I bought this version a couple years ago. I just placed an order for the 2011 remastered/repressing. Anyone know how it compares to this version?
Mojar Mojar
I prefer the Masterdisk original mastering by a wide margin when compared to the 2011 reissue.
FailCrew FailCrew
Mine is an intense orange with few lighter parts, so it's not very "marbled". Anyway, very good mastering (powerful, clear, full sound: it gives the current 24/96 remaster a run for its money) and good pressing.
Beazerdred Beazerdred
Amazing repress compared to some. One key thing that made this repress excellent for me was the cover art is not touched. (No labels, UPC codes etc on the back, no title on the front.) Comes with good inner sleeves as well as designed with lyrics on the back ones that are rather thick.
Togar Togar
My copy has a fold out and not a booklet. Is my version different? The middle ring number match but there just isnt a booklet
Brol Brol
Pretty impressive, no issues with the press. The remastering adds another dimension to this great album. 5 stars!

anyone's copy warped?

Nice box set, definitely worth buying if you are a smashing pumpkin fan. My only complaint is that the artwork was fine the way it was, I don't Like the new orange and purple coloring

I have the 1993 pressing of this and 1 LP is pink marbled and the other orange. Any one else have something similar?

Mine also has the 2nd LP label on both records. It confused me when I first opened it, thankfully the music is all correct.

Surprisingly good repress. I would recommend.

Is 'orange marbled' the same as 'tangerine swirl'? I bought a copy of this years ago, and the seems lighter than these photos.
Hellmaster Hellmaster
thymperdu Is 'orange marbled' the same as 'tangerine swirl'? I bought a copy of this years ago, and the seems lighter than these photos. I actually wonder the same, my version is peach color and I've seen it being called "peach vinyl", not sure if these color variants need their own page as the orange is different, not peach or tangerine. And then there is this photo to make matters even more complex: https://img.discogs.com/AM1TQvQt3DjkWSNyGphj7LMg4ek=/fit-in/600x800/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-1964222-1469989273-8996.jpeg.jpg , but only 3 variants listed on discogs (pink, orange, purple).
