Nargaroth is a German black metal band created by René Ash Wagner formerly Kanwulf in Germany, 1996. According to Ash, Nargaroth was formed in 1989, but due to contradictory statements of Ash, this date is disputed, as well as the release of the seven track instrumental demo Orke in 1991. It is supposed that this demo was actually released in 1999. The demo Herbstleyd, which Ash claims to be released in 1993, was probably not released before this date. Country of origin: Germany. Nargaroth was formed from the ashes of a band called Exhuminenz in 1996 by Kanwulf, Charoon, and Darken, and the first recordings were completed in 1998 using a drum-machine. The alias Kanwulf came from a French book with old Scandinavian names, such as the more famous. One and Only OFFICIAL NARGAROTH Page Homepage: BandCamp. Years later, after many accusations from the international black metal scene, he stated on his website that the genesis of Nargaroth was in 1996 after the band Exhuminenz, formed by himself, R. All the songs from Part I here have been edited in some way, in comparison to their original EP versions:
- The final section of "Rasluka" has fewer repeats, and the bells aren't heard at the end.
- "Wo Die Kraniche Ziehn'" has had it's intro removed and I think fades out sooner.
- "Tränen Eines Mannes" has an early fade, rather than the cold ending with the gong hit.

This is obviously to facilitate getting the entire EP onto one side of vinyl, as the original is 30 minutes long, which would presumably mean the vinyl wouldn't sound as good otherwise, as the optimal length is considered to be 20 minutes or under (this edited version of the EP clocks in at about 25 minutes).

Part II is more or less complete, except that the outro of "...Vom Freien Willen Eines Schwarzen Einhorns" has been removed. Kind of a shame, as I'd say the flute sections of "In Stillem Gendenken" and "...Und Ich Sah Sonn' Nimmer Heben" were perhaps worthy of being made a bit shorter (I've always found that final phrase to repeat just a couple too many times, especially on the latter) over removing that outro.

Do I think these edits make this a bad release? No. But if you're a completist, it means you'll want both this and the original EPs in some format, and if you're a purist, you'll want to skip this in favour of those. I had Part II on tape before getting this release, and upon discovering the edits made to Part I, I'll be adding the tape version of that to my wantlist, too.
