Holden Amateur Guitar Mix. In my opinion, one of the best Holden's tracks. For sure, this is the best version of Come To Me. The track has only one simple, flat riff played by the (very) sick (and not so) amateur Holden's guitar. Julie Thompson's voice here is distorted, delayed, it seems so far... And it sounds very good. As usual, the sounds, the effects, the structure... Everything is a model for all the electronic producers. After the main theme, James changes idea and drifts to a damned prog-tech-acid march which makes the dancefloors burn like hell. Personally i love the mix of frightening sounds and Julie's laments so the second theme beats the first. The only fault is the low speed! This version must be played always at +8% and it's just 126 bpm! Not a problem for home-listening, but a shame for club mixing... By the way, if you love James Holden or if you simply appreciate upper-classy contemporary electronic music, you can't miss this mix. This is a true gift that Holden made for his fans. Essential.

Thank You for the replies, probably i answer to You a bit late... My fault, the review was referred to the Club Mix.What i meant about the speed (that is about 117 bpm for that mix) was just a fancy. My criticism was about the comfort of the djs that play this record... Furthermore in these years the speed of electronic slowed a bit, so Holden was a pioneer in a sense.For me Holden is (was) upper-classy, like Apparat, Four Tet, the Innervisions guys, the Kompakt guys... They made a lot "club records", but with a different, more intelligent touch. They show to other producers how to move ahead.Of course there are artists and musicians better than Holden, that for me simply remains a myth (and it's a shame that he's almost disappeared).

i agree with alot of what you say apart from the last couple of lines, 126bpm is about standard tech-house speed it rarely goes past 135 and if it does it's usually crossing the techno borderline, Upper classy is abit of a slam, If james holdens style is upper class then what does that make half of the other djs out there, royal family?

Trademark Holden - bouncy baselines, ambient meloldies, deep atmosphere, and leftfield experimentalism all mixed in with dancefloor sensibility. Overall, a very strong release, but I find it doesn't quite live up to his previous track with Julie Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning mix). Then again, what could? 4.5/5
