Brothers in Arms is the fifth studio album by British rock band Dire Straits, released in 1985. The first half of the album is a development of their unique brand of arena rock which had evolved in their music since the 1980 album Making Movies, while the second half consists of more folk-influenced material. The whole album maintains the original Dire Straits' bluesy and laid back guitar-based sound whilst retaining a more lavish and bombastic production and overall sound. It is the band's best selling album. Brothers in Arms was one of the first albums to be directed at the CD mark. An amazing sounding record. This is the one I play for non audiophiles to see if they “get it.” Still, it has a slight shimmer, a digital veneer if you will. But the dynamic range and clarity and separation are so striking as to provide even resistant listeners with an undeniably unique experience. The best sounding digitally recorded music I have heard.

So happy to open it up and be greeted by a lovely sounding MPO pressing. I was initially a bit worried I’d end up with the dreaded GZ!

There is also an album-variant in Turkey on a record-label called COBRA. Maybe an inofficial release there.?? Who knows more ?

Generally a nice pressing, but expected more dynamic range. Vocals seemed to be slightly muted, and the drum intro on Money For Nothing didn't have the impact and 'snap' that is on the original record from the 80's. The reissue has more warmth and less bright than the original, and bass on the reissue is deeper and more consistent with the how the band would have played in the studio.
Berenn Berenn
Surprisingly disappointing, and I'm just comparing it to a simple 1980's release. It's very hard to call this an improvment, the volume is quite low and it butchers the intro to Money for Nothing. I'm planing on picking up a MoFi version soon to replace this waste of money, but at least for now I have a decent copy to play.

I have quite a few MoFi 45 and 33 pressings, so know what to expect. This is without a doubt, the best version of this album I have heard in general terms, though I say this with some reservations. The songs, production and detail are excellent and MoFi have done an excellent job with the source material, to give vinyl that is crisp, punchy and dynamic. However, when compared to other Dire Straits albums, this one clearly betrays its digital heritage on my very revealing system. It has a degree of brittleness, dryness and lacks the natural flow of a pure analogue recording/mastering. There is also a kind of digital sheen or veiling, but nothing like as pronounced as I hear on the CD or my original vinyl from the 1980s. There are places where there are too many pops and clicks, despite wet cleaning, but by far the biggest problem is that the styli on both of my high end players, skip during track B1 (Walk of Life) as has been highlighted in the database comments by others. Mine is serial number 015289. Hoping to get a return and replacement.

Keep in mind that this album was originally recorded in the fully digital domain.

Same problem over here, they said it isn't a pressing problem but because of the loud bass. However when my tracking force is getting heavier it's been better..Good luck.Jim

I just got this one for my Collection -- a great pressing. People whinge about surface noise, but--it's Vinyl so you'll never get a super-clean, quiet pressing; that's the nature of the beast. What annoys me is that the reissuers are sort of lazy; this should be a Gatefold, not just the two heavy vinyl shoved in two paper sleeves in one jacket. I've now put the Vinyl outside of these in rice paper sleeves (inside the jacket, keeping original inners) but it's still a pain to get them in and out of the main LP jacket as there's so much stuffed in there. Ah, well, I'm buying Vinyl to play it, not hoard it like a snob collector; the jackets can fall to bits - I don't care - as long as the Vinyl survives, that's fine.

Nope...no single disc edition can sonically compete with the double disk pressings, especially the MFSL 45rpm pressing.(Plus, 4 of the songs are edited on this single-disk edition)

THE definitive vinyl pressing of this album, hands down. Even tops the Stan Ricker double vinyl pressing.Having said this, the OG CD issue has better dynamics & separation, which is clearly down to the format.

what is the OG CD issue that you reference here?

REENO I've never heard of a cd player affecting dynamics? It's all 0's & 1's at the end of the day. I was talking about the vinyl side. A worse rig might display worse dynamics.

Seems true, unless the sample uploaded to DR Archives is suffering because of the playback rig. CDs are much more transparent with stats.

Man total luck of the draw I guess but the copy I bought was the greatest sounding record I’d purchased up to that point.

Me the same! I am so in luck - sounds unbelievable !!

Agree with sdzsdz - vinyl is noisy. Having said that, sonics are amazing and the artwork is super-sturdy. The quality of vinyl that MOFI use, appears to be getting worse.

The next time your snobby vinyl purist friends remark on the superior quality of AAA vinyl (and that digital recordings cut to vinyl are trash), remind them that this pressing exists. It's an audiophile staple for a reason, and the songs just happen to be great.

That is the point he was making. THIS album is digitally recorded, yet sounds warm as hell.

Perhaps I should reword my review. I meant to say that AAA vinyl isn't always king.

Sound quality is very good on this one. No problems with my copy at all, though like others, I'd have preferred a single LP to this double format. Compared to my Pallas pressed DS audiophile remasters, the sonics compare reasonably enough, the laquers were cut by Bernie Grundman and Bob Ludwig, so maybe that explains that. There was also an RTI pressing in this format, could it be the same sourcing? GZ (Czech republic) pressings seem to be a hit or miss, often the quality is there, lamentably the consistency is not.
Gandree Gandree
I tried two examples in the 14500 range and am not impressed with the pressing quality. Very loud groove noise on some passages that disturb the quiet parts of the music, also some clicks and pops that resist all cleaning (including ultrasonic) methods. For 70 Euros that is not acceptable. Sound and mixing is superb though.
Xar Xar
I have just bought a copy in the 146xx range. After cleaning it with a standard wet electronic record cleaning machine it played with very few ticks (and just one pop). I guess you have to be a bit lucky to get a clean sounding pressing, but they definetely exist. And yeah - it sounds absolutely wonderful.
Kagda Kagda
DISAGREE--It's a perfectly mastered vinyl pressing, and at 45rpm no less.
Ishnjurus Ishnjurus
This Allied Pressing sounds absolutely fantastic and is very underrated in my opinion.

A2, Money for Nothing, has pronounced scratching noise in the right channel about a minute into play, although no visible defects show. I will replace with another copy, hopefully a one-off pressing defect.

I have this peruanian press but the catalog-# is: Y-TGO - 8244991.7 (probably an early repress/2nd run). Cover has inferior printing quality than US, japanese or EU-versions.

if you can get this pressing, get it! MFSL truly is a seal of approval in its own right.

I just got this the other day, sealed/brand new straight from Acoustic Sounds. I was disappointed to find some pretty significant scratches in the record that causes a repeating pop on one side. Otherwise, it sounds great. I think I hit the unlucky lottery a bit.
MARK BEN FORD MARK BEN FORD
Just got my copy today, it is still sealed but I see the inners are split wide open and 1 corner is scuffed pretty bad (not from shipping, it was packed very well). Not impressed so far, scared at what the records may look like.
tref tref
So unnecessary for it to be a double LP, nobody wants to flip it after 2 songs
Jaiarton Jaiarton
The whole point of having it on two discs was because they couldn't fit it on one without shortening several songs, which they did on the original single LP of this.
Fenrikree Fenrikree
Incorrect. The original LP had 4 of the songs on Side A severely edited due to the time limitations of a single disk. Also, the sound quality is MUCH better when spread out onto 2 discs, particularly at 45 rpm.
Ffyan Ffyan
In fact it's not a bad thing because the fewer titles on one side and the more the sound is spaced and breathe, and then we don't reinvent the constraints of vinyl, and that's what makes its charm !
RuTGamer RuTGamer
This MFSL pressing is beyond believable!!! I have been listening to this classic Dire Straits album ever since it came out, and have owned several issues on LP and CD. However, when I played the MFSL vinyl issue, it felt as if I am hearing it for the first time. The dynamic range on track "The Mans Too Strong", including the underlying earth-shaking timpani bass, gives you chills and makes the heart skip the beat. Mid-range bloom, drums, highs, lows, stage, on the entire album in this pressing, makes it worth at any cost you may have to pay. A must have for anyone who likes this album!
Xcorn Xcorn
Just stating a fact. The OG cd issue was practically a flat transfer. That coupled with the natural dynamics of the album, gives it a wider dynamic range than any vinyl master of this album.
Envias Envias
I am not interested in starting analogue vs. digital discussion. Please proceed enjoying your CD.
Agalas Agalas
You do realize that the cd format offers a wider dynamic range than vinyl right?

This does have the full length songs even though the center labels are seemingly printed incorrectly with the shorter durations; used a stopwatch to verify. Haven't heard the MoFi version, but this one sounds incredible.

No. They are the full length songs. The label just used the same timing as the original label.

The world tour at this time was wonderful. The album though is a patchy LP with only three or four tracks worth listening to. I was disappointed with it when it came out. And now I can’t imagine ever putting it on. For all Mark’s expressive playing on the title track it’s a bore otherwise. It’s unfortunate that people who don’t know Dire Straits too well talk about this one first....simply because it was in everyone’s face due to its easier consumption, radio friendliness and car stereo benefits (no one would crash due to being distracted by it). It’s a shame because the signature DS sound should’ve been remembered as the first four albums. Not this blinking thing.

I tried two different copies (from the same store) and both had very loud clicks at the very beginning of the first song on side A.I returned my record so I don't remember the number of my record unfortunately but still be aware.Clicks were very loud and repetitive (definitely a defect) and the same on both copies I had tested.

I definitely prefer the mofi 2 x 45 rpm LP for regular listening, but the 5.1 mix on this sacd is a fun and fresh way to experience this album. It has a well rounded sound and it brings out a lot of the background instrumentation enough that you can hear things that go unnoticed in other mixes. Worth a listen in 5.1 for sure.
Alexandra Alexandra
Easily the best sounding album in my collection. Most people know that the original LP sounds terrific as well, but mofi really perfected these songs with their Gain 2 magic and by spreading it all out on two 45 rpm LPs. Pure listening bliss. Plus the extended/uncut songs are a true blessing.

Initial impressions after first listen:Immediately I was impressed with how smooth this mastering is. I can turn it up loud and the highs don't fatigue. The mids have good detail and the bass doesn't distort or feel uncontrolled. This album is a few cuts above almost all other CDs I have, Dire Straits included. Mofi brought out subtle details that weren't something I noticed before, and playing Money For Nothing revealed the kick drum is cleaner and the highhat sounds like it should instead of hissy and sharp. The mix is awesome!Listening to the standard layer with a CAL Delta Transit, through a Sigma II tube processor, then into a NAD 1600, Yamaha MX-1 and finally through Polk SRS SDA speakers.

This Dire Straits Dolby 5.1 remix is nothing short of AWESOME! The album was originally recorded in pristine DDD and lends itself well to being remixed in surround sound which adds a totally new listening dimension. I bought the CD release when it first came out more than 20 years ago and spent 2 decades listening to it in regular 2 channel stereo the SACD 5.1 channel release of the same great music and lyrics immerses the listener into the music with digital precision that must be heard to be believed!!!

there appears to be a pressing fault around 2/3 of the way through Walk Of Life that affected all copies of the LP we received (dozens) in the 11,000 range. Queried MFSL and they said this is not a fault but is due to "a large amount of base on the record" - odd, given the issue appears only once and in exactly the same place, and you can see the needle and cartridge physically shake at that point. Apparently there's replacement discs available, however our suppliers weren't aware...
It's so easy It's so easy
I would also love to find a resolution to this problem. I have now bought three copies of this pressing at great expense and have no resolution in sight. I think this is no where near good enough for such a highly respected company, which depends on greater quality to justify greater expense in a niche market....
Fog Fog
(I am not able to see the replies to this note, and I don't know why. I believe one of the currently 9 replies is from me describing my experience with the fault identified by ChangeLog).I had the same problem as ChangeLog on two different copies in the 14,500 range. MoFi has replaced my Record 1. Hats off to my Record Store manager to sort through the problem.
Kiutondyl Kiutondyl
I can't see the other replies to this for some reason, but I've bought 2 copies now that both have this exact fault, is there any avenue for recourse ? I think it quite ridiculous that such an expensive release, from a company that is meant to pride itself on being the best, would allow the faulty ones to continue to be sold.
Inertedub Inertedub
Mike, get your vendor to take it up with MoFi - they should be able to navigate the bureaucracy without too much difficulty.
Lucam Lucam
MoFi has acknowledged the fault and is 'preparing replacement disks' for me.
Dozilkree Dozilkree
A pressing error I would say is a manufacturing fault 8-)
Bearus Bearus
Add me to the 'Skip Of Life' list. The first copy had the skip but was also by far the noisiest MoFi I have ever heard. My shop replaced it with no questions asked - they're good like that. The second copy was MUCH quieter and promised to be the brilliant job that I expect from MoFi as I listened to the first side. Then the skip hit at exactly the same place on side 2 track 1. That's when I discovered the discussion here and a similar one on Steve Hoffman. I'll see what the shop can find out from MoFi about rectification with replacement discs.
Joni_Dep Joni_Dep
no Mike we didn't other than to return all the faulty copies to the supplier.

LOL, seriously - not a fault but a pressing error - what is a pressing error?

Yep, I can confirm, mine has this too. My stylus or cartridge did not 'shake', but its a definite flaw. However, I am not so pedantic to demand a refund. Can also confirm this pressing has a few pops and cracks, however a good clean will remedy this. Keep in mind, paying over 75USD this should not happen, so i am somewhat disappointed in that regard. All in all, vinyl is very quiet and the mastering is brilliant.

This one version also has a plain black and white printed booklet, with English songs lyrics and Japanese translations, as well as Japanese liner notes, but no English translation of these liner notes. Is there anayone proficient in Japanese, who could translate these 5 booklet pages of Japanese liner notes into English or German (I would translate from German to English, then).Regards

This is the 1996 Bob Ludwig remaster. The CD is bit-identical to a standard 1996 remastered CD. The booklet is no better or more exhaustive than the standard booklet of the 1996 remastered CD, liner notes, lyrics, credits, all are the same just like the standard remastered release. Only selling point is the unique packaging. The photograph of the guitar on the cover is very slightly more cropped than on the standard releases.Matrix code is (Universal logo) 06007 533 546-6 01P52790217 MADE IN GERMANY BY EDC Mold IFPI 0120
Shem Shem
The CD side of this dual disc has been compressed to death. Booklet says, "CD: 24-bit High Resolution Digital Remastering by Keith Blake". In fact, the CD side of this dual disc is much louder and much more compressed than the "standard" 1996 remaster by Bob Ludwig. Money for Nothing is bleeding in the ears, and "The man's too Strong" lost all its power. The DVD side plays as Surround sound Audio DVD, and as Dolby Digital Surround Video-compatible DVD, and as Stereo 24 bit/48kHz PCM Video-compatible DVD. The Stereo track of the DVD side seems to be the same mastering as the CD side. The only selling point is the surround mix of this disc. But also this surround mix is really compressed, I'd say, even more than the 1996 remasters. Most of the surround channels is reverb and ambience. If you play the surround mix, mixed-down to stereo in your DVD player, (or the stereo mix) and feed it through a Dolby Prologic II Music decoder, you get even more of the surround feeling than with the discrete Dolby Digtal surround on the DVD-side, at least for some tracks. However, the surround mix kind-of immerses the listener into the music, which is what it's all about. It does not provide more of analytical separation of instruments, which would be even more fun. Say, if backing vocals would purely come through the rear channels. Or, if all the keyboards and "sugar" like tambourines and percussions, would come through the rear channels exclusively. Unfortunately, most of the surround mixes we get are anxious and chicken-hearted, not to be too different than the standard stereo. So, you get the vocal center front, and most of the instruments all from the front, and only some reverb from the rears. It sounds familiar, but like a lost chance. Surround is different than stereo, so don't mix surround just like stereo with reverb and ambience from the rears. The best sounding edition still is the original 1985 CD edition, with no obvious compression applied. The "rockers" like Money for Nothing or One World are loud on the original 1985 edition, but have the punch and bite of high dynamic range, when drum beats really cut through. The softer songs like "Why Worry" are really softer than the rest of the songs. The original 1985 edition therefore is quite low in volume, but once you crank up your stereo, you get the fun of high dynamic range. But, the 1985 edition is probably too low in volume for car stereo or the portable MP3 player. The 1996 remaster "rectifies" this, however, sacrifices some of the listening fun, especially on "The man's too strong", but also on Money for Nothing, especially if you are listening to the 1996 remaster and the 1985 original back to back. Interrestingly, the 1996 remaster and the 1985 original CDs play in perfect syncronicity through out the album, once you aligned the first snare drum hits of "So Far Away". The 2005 Keith Blake remaster of this dual disc, however, does not remain in sync. He probably cut some few secons of silence in between songs...This 2005 Keith Blake remaster is much to loud and way too compressed to be any fun. It urges you to turn down the volume, while the 1985 original wants you to turn up the volume. The 2005 remaster is bleeding in the ears. The 2005 surround remix is a novelty, but also fun to listen to. But, still, it could have been done much better, more like a 360° soundscape surrounding the listener. Also, compression could habe been a little to substantial less, to take full advantage of dynamics.Unless you have 5.1 surround equipment, avoid this release like the plague.
Love Me Love Me
After hearing this in comparison to the 1st issue CD version from 1985, I believe the MFSL edition blows the CD out of the water. Has more warmth and sonic clarity without a flatness to it. Definitely pick one up even if you're not a big Dire Straits fan.

Anything and everything great that has been said about this release is true. If anything bad has been said, it's not true. Just amazing. A perfect 10 without question.

Hey mate, I have purchased three copies of this press now and all skip at the exact same point in 'Walk of Life' on three different properly set up turntables (Technics SL1210 mk5, an upgraded Pro-Ject Expression III and a Thorens 165) with above average stylus's. Two of them are quite noisy in quiet parts of Side A, one of them is completely intolerable in the epic intro for 'Money for Nothing'. So, unfortunately, I'm not sure how you can say that anything bad said is "not true" as 3 out of the 3 I have purchased for over $300- now have been faulty. On some songs and in parts of the copies that I have that do play ok, the mastering is insanely good, which makes the faults even more intolerable........ This is the first album I've ever purchased brand new that skipped after many years buying vinyl, I actually thought people were mental reporting new records skipping as I'd never experienced this before.

Once more, shout out to the original CD. I have to do these things because the reviewed discs sound so amazing - seriously, you can't have a better demonstration disc for your system at this price (except maybe an early "Communique"). And the music doesn't need any more praise either - to me, this was Dire Straits at their absolute peak with a great variety of songs and purely beautiful guitar playing this is a must for any music lover (who can stand that digital 80s sound - it can be a bit strange at first)

I bought this album last week. Side two was a total misspress which almost ruined my needle. I changed it for another copy, which had some dust and some scratches on it. Overall I'm not really impressed. Some of my 50 year old albums look a lot better than this one. It's sad to see that with mass production the quality really goes down. Its not the first LP which i bought in this condition. The sound quality is okay, sometimes a bit harsh in the treble.

MFSL does not always nail it, but when they do...ohhhh boy! Case in point, this 2 X 45 RPM SET. Easily the best vinyl pressing in existence, and dare I say, I prefer it over the original 1985 cd in it's overall sonics. The EQ is perfect, as is the clarity and the dynamics. Worth every penny. I sure hope the other 45 RPM sets are as good as this one. Having said that, I am a little disturbed that 3 of the 4 sides on my copy were pressed slightly off-center. I expect better QC when paying top dollar for an audiophile release.

Stereo wise maybe but who needs a new stereo version when the original is exceptional, and no, no SACD will improve that - this is all about the 5.1 mix which is excellent!

Not a perfect pressing but acceptable.Money For Nothing is quite noisy during some passages but other than that my pressing is a high quality one.Oh, and it tends to get scratched quite easily...

Always put your records in polylined inner sleeves. This stops the surfaces getting scuffed. I buy mine from covers33.co.uk. https://tinyurl.com/n8ubxcb
Mpapa Mpapa
My experience is the same as nbecquet. Excellent sound right out of the sleeve after giving them a wash before playing. Played all 4 sides after purchasing today and giving it 5 stars. Good job BG & Co!
Capella Capella
It says here rights society biem/stemra?But the disc clearly says Gema even the image is blurred???

Simply speaking: polish pirate made by an unknown company. Generally sounds all right but (even if in visually NM state) might pop and crackle a lot.
Jwalextell Jwalextell
Its not true, you've got poor NM copy, mine crackle a little on B1 and the rest plays very good. BTW its only cheap "polish pirate made by an unknown company", not UK press...
Mori Mori
Stereo: I think it is quite good. Very quiet quiets, but I little bunched up at the louds.
Voodoosida Voodoosida
My second Dire Straits album in vinyl but my first in a Japanese pressing... and what a sound !!! Odd when you think that this album was used to promote cd's at the time of its release. Some of the tracks are different in length then there cd's versions. But overall a great addition to my collection.
Broadcaster Broadcaster
mine is on its way.. cant wait.. hehe.. have u heard the US first press? hope the Japanese can match it or better it.. hehe
Makaitist Makaitist
Maybe i'm lucky but each LP was clean "right out the box" and the sound is amazing. one of my best LP in sound quality : it's like you are in the recording studio with my system. I bought several records form back to black and this one is on the top.
Vudozilkree Vudozilkree
Got my used mint copy yesterday and it sounds perfect and flawless. Vinyls have MPO in the dead wax..wonder does anybody else have the same?
Datrim Datrim
Gzvinyl is in the dead wax. Anyway the sound is very very good. Clear, wide, well defined, & nothing of the digital spirit of the album is lost. It sound 80's, that's sure. The pressing is ultra quiet. No clicks, nor pops. The version i was waiting for!
Manarius Manarius
Does your copy have gzvinyl in the dead wax? The 2010 was pressed by gzvinyl, but I have come across one source that indicated the 2014 version was pressed by RTI. If the 2014 version is definitely not gzvinyl then I'll get a copy.

This album rules!! The replay value is infinite...A timeless LP
Kagaramar Kagaramar
Australia? And why the back cover says MADE IN CANADA?
Jeb Jeb
The CD image is different to Both and actually Mercury Records London 1996 so again this is why submissions are needed to build and fix errors.

With all the various CD remasters released over the years, none have been able to duplicate the openess and dynamics of the original 1985 pressing. The 2000 remaster was good, but we lost some of the dynamic range (but not a huge amount).Later cd issues have been brick-walled/limited, killing the natural dynamics that this album had in spades.Earlier vinyl editions, I've been told have been hit or miss. So in 2015 comes MFSL's vinyl re-issue, and man the results are fantastic!!Smartly, MFSL knew that the only way to improve on an otherwise great sounding album was to spread it out over TWO discs, and cut it at 45 RPM. This is THE best sounding version of the album, even improving on the original 1985 CD.
Forcestalker Forcestalker
Before you pay $80 for this here, it's still in stock on the MFSL website for it's original $50.
Vutaur Vutaur
it's 'out of stock' as of today but thanks for tip
Forey Forey
Is it worth having a copy of this AND the MoFi?
Hanelynai Hanelynai
Stan Ricker did the 1/2 speed mastering. Yes it is worth it. Its also worth picking up just about anything he touched. hope this helps. cheers
Cenneel Cenneel
No the Mofi is superior, if you need two then get two copies of the MFSL!
Marilbine Marilbine
i thought i escaped the gzvinyl curse until i heard second half of Brother in Arms, damn it!
Loni Loni
By some way, the best pressing of this album I have heard - simply jaw dropping dynamics and bottom end.
Marilace Marilace
Ruined by yet another noisy GZ pressing
Mavivasa Mavivasa
Too expensive for my likes, but i must say, worth every penny. Awesome pressing.
Macage Macage
It's not expensive at all. It's 2 discs, @ 45 rpm.
Malanim Malanim
How many pressings made? I have number 1910
Flarik Flarik
my number 8811 - that´s not limited, it´s numbered :-)
Whitebeard Whitebeard
I have # 3702.
Akta Akta
A licence agreement is the period of time which you can press...
Hulore Hulore
Good question. I have # 3700.I recall reading some where that with each deal MoFi are only allowed to produce/sell a contractual number of units. I would guess that for each release the number of units would be different. The more important question is how many records are made from each stamper.

Murdered by compression and clipping.Perfect example of how loudness war has wrecked a remaster. This is the worst version of this album I have ever heard.Dynamic range has been crushed to a reading of only 8.The dynamic range of the 1985 John Dent Brothers In Arms is a staggering 20. YES 20! The signal is driven that hard to make this SACD loud that most of the waveform is clipping. You have an amplifier for making it loud, so let it do it's job so the sound will have punch. This SACD initially sounds impressive and extremely digital and sharp, too sharp. Then after listening awhile your ears get tired and you want to turn the volume down. There is no thump and the sound is weak.Compare any 1985 standard CD version and extended listening will prove the 1985 is superior to this rubbish. So do yourself and avoid like the plague!
heart of sky heart of sky
Classic Dire, the LP version runs rings around the cd version - try the lead in on money for nothing, awesome.

Comments here for those interesting in finding the best sounding version of this album.I have compared the following CDs and LPs...original 1985 standard CD Made in W. Germany by Polygram matrix 824 499-2 02 * (John Dent version)original 1985 standard LP Brothers In Arms20th Anniversary SACD, barcode 602498714980 Brothers In ArmsMobile Fidelity SACD UDSACD2099 Brothers In ArmsMobile Fidelity 45RPM LP set (this one Brothers In Arms)If you like the big full sound with a bottom end that goes down the lowest then you cannot go past the Mobile Fidelity 45RPM LP set Brothers In Arms. Compared to the MoFi SACD the SACD sounds thin, harsh and has less bottom end.Totally avoid the 20th Anniversary SACD as it has had the life compressed out of it and has clipping. In all cases the 1985 vinyl and the MoFi vinyl are better sounding than any of the CD/SACDs.However if CDs are your thing then I'd recommend either the MoFi SACD or an original 1985 CD.Note that your stereo gear may produce different results to what I have reported here and your taste in what you want may also differ to mine. So please do not be offended as I do not claim that I am right, merely reporting what I found. This testing has been done using the following gear.Amplifier - Yamaha A-S2000Phono pre amp - Acoustic Signature Tango UltimateSACD player - Yamaha CD-S2000Turntable - Acoustic Signature Mk2 with Rega RB700 arm and Ortofon Rondo Bronze MC cartridgeSpeakers - Martin Logan EthosSub - REL T1 10" version

Note on U.K version at bottom of front cover:This cassette features extended versions of four songs .Blank tape at the end of Side Two is necessary to duplicate sequence of LP.I have two copies that say the same thing.
Soustil Soustil
A horrible album that I wouldn´t even use as a frisbee. I understand why it was popular since it´s a Commercial album with Music "we have heard before". But as a seller I do appreciate that it is Selling very well indeed.
Arlelond Arlelond
I also have the Warner release as 33rpm double. This one sounds much better IMO, less bright, more open and much more dynamic.

Where's the rest of "Your Latest Trick" lyrics???
Nalmezar Nalmezar
This MFSL release is more airy in comparison to WEA 2LP @33 1/3 release.
Goltizuru Goltizuru
tollact: what a question? It' official MFSL and absolute sure 45rpm... But if its to expensive, there is a Version of 2006 WEA 2 LP, pressed by Pallas Germany, which sounds wunderful and normaly costs the half price of the MFSL Cu, Snow
Cha Cha
It is real 45 RPM? I don't think so....
ZloyGenii ZloyGenii
it isthats why there are only two songs on every side and two vinyl
Beahelm Beahelm
The one I have is a matte cover with a white barcodeIs still-sealed

The pictures correspond to a CD, or it's one or the other, no both
Dddasuk Dddasuk
Is this version remastered?
Skunk Black Skunk Black
I think so, in the sticker you can read "Half Speed Mastered by Stan Ricker if you want to know who he is http://www.rickermaster.com/images/About%20Stan.htm BTW this sounds amazing
Shistus Shistus
This mastering lacks details and has got some sibliance. Why I just didn't buy the original...?
Morlurne Morlurne
i just received my copy and the lenght of the tracks are wrong, they are the same of the standard LP edition, not the full lenght
Llathidan Llathidan
No, they are full length. Ignore the times printed on the labels and grab a stopwatch ;-).
Ddilonyne Ddilonyne
There must be 2 versions then because mine has shortened tracks as well. I bought it because it was mentioned here it had full length tracks. Dissapointing ... :(
Weernis Weernis
Just received mine today and it was the full lenght
Arakus Arakus
One of the cleanest sounding SACD's released. I was not even a fan until I bought this SACD and now I get why they're so respected--well, Knopfler.
Qiahmagha Qiahmagha

When I was little, we had the vinyl of this album, and I don't remember any of the songs being shorter. But then again, we probably got the CD shortly after, and only listened to the vinyl a few times. (not enough times to tell the difference)
Gugrel Gugrel
On my vinyl copy only A1, A2, A4 & A5 are shorter. I've never heard or seen a 5:57 version of "Ride Across The River"
